Where?

The Trust ultimately aims to support projects in Zimbabwe when the political situation allows. In the meantime, we will be working with projects in the countries that border the Zambezi River, namely Zambia, Botswana, Malawi and Mozambique. Zambezi-Trust-Area-Combined

Why?

These countries in the Zambezi region are some of the poorest in the world with rural communities being particularly disadvantaged. Common issues are dealing with harsh climates, food shortages, lack of accessibility to clean water, sporadic education, lack of healthcare and of course HIV/AIDs. Our aim is to support poor, underprivileged families giving them the opportunity to make a better life for themselves.

Our first project is in Chiawa – a region 170km southeast of Lusaka, in the Zambezi valley, with the Zambezi river forming its southernmost boundary. It is a hot, low-lying area with poor annual rainfall prone to tsetse fly. Farming is threatened by wild animals – notably elephants and hippos, and the few jobs available are restricted to younger men. Sustaining a family – a role which traditionally falls on the women’s shoulders – is a huge challenge.
